I often remember waiting in line in some post office in the post office of a remote village in upstate New York to send a package somewhere. I recall by my side older women sending off packages to their grandchildren into much busier cities where they have never been. I thought of how these packages will be in shock when they get to very different post office stations, and how they will be received by less gentle attendants who live according to a different pace, principles and values. Probably this was the main errand that lady had to do on that day.
